“We have no doubt that this endeavour will bear positive results. We have never failed in the past and we reiterate that we shall not fail going forward. The fight against road crashes and fatalities must go on until it is won,” said MEC Lehari who
The Department of Education and Sport Development representative, Dr Daniel More appreciated the initiative on road safety debate emphasising that it builds learners thinking capacity, making them critical thinkers.

Dr More pleaded with the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management to sustain the initiative. This debate competition is designed to increase road safety awareness by young people, converting them to be road safety ambassadors.

The programme is implemented by the department in conjunction with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and Department of Basic Education targeting high school learners.

The competition unfolds in two approaches, firstly being to firstly educate a smaller group of learners, and secondly to empower larger groups of learners and communities via these peer educators who will impart the necessary road safety information that will save lives and avert injuries through sanctioning learners with practical research skills and enhancing their presentation skills, and promoting team work by means of participatory education techniques.
